Mariah Bell was third at the 2019 U.S. Nationals at the Novice level. The audience and commenters gave a warm welcome to Mariah Bell as she did a lovely presentation coming onto the ice. She has a big smile and stops into her starting position, which is a sassy hand on the hip pose. There is a lot of confidence and security seen in her skating this year, and she has won a lot of medals this Grand Prix season.
Her opening jump in the short program is a huge double axel. Her next jump is what is going to bring in her points for her short program, the triple flip, triple toe combination. She has great speed and height to both jumps, which caused a great ending and a beautiful landing. This jump received a plus-point on it because of how high and perfect it was. Her facial expressions and body language to this short program match her Brittany Spears music perfectly. Her first spin in the run-through is a combination spin that had great speed and was held for the amount of rotations needed in every position in order to receive a level 4 and plus points. Her triple lutz received a lot of height and an extra two points for a smooth landing. She then goes into a flying sit, which received a level 4. Then, her step sequence was started with a lot of energy and power, although she took a fall in it. She tripped on one of her rockers, which causes a 1 point deduction for the fall and fewer points than what she expected on her footwork. This fall could be why she goes from 2nd to 3rd place. However, she gets up with a smile and finishes the sequence with speed and a smile on her face. Her final spin being a layback was gorgeous and fast. This also received a level 4 and almost a plus one of how elegant it was. It was evident that she was frustrated with herself for making a silly mistake like falling on her step sequence when she had already landed all of her jumps with great height and plus points.
Her final results showed that she received 39.42 points for the technical elements and 34.80 points for her program components. Her total score is 73.22 for the short program and she is put into third place.
