The Florida Gators are back and contenders once again! Heisman hopeful Kyle Trask lit up this Georgia defensive without star tight end Kyle Pitts. Pitts took a hit to the head with 8:28 left in the second quarter with the game tied at 21-21. The hit led to the ejection of safety Lewis Cine. However, Pitts picked up 2 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game. No word from the Gators yet if Pitts will play Saturday. The hit must’ve lit a fire of some sort for the offensive and defense. Trask ended the game 30/43 with 474 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. From that point on, the Gators defense only allowed a single touchdown the rest of the game.
Let’s get crazy now. Florida has no ranked opponents left this season, as of now. The Gators entered last night with one loss against Texas A&M in the second week of the season. They have taken control of the SEC East, and I don’t see them losing another game this season. The remaining teams are as followed; Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, and LSU. The Gators rank number 6in the country in the latest AP poll. For them to fall into the top 4 and secure a spot in the College Football Playoffs, they need to win out, beat Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, and hopefully, Texas A&M falls victim to an upset. If ALL that happens, then you can beat the Gators will be in the playoffs.
Let’s talk about the other side; if both A&M and the Gators win outright, I can’t see Florida getting a playoff spot. The worst-case scenario is the Gators finish the season ranked within the top 6 and get a “New Year’s 6 Bowl”. Am I crazy to think the Gators will win outright and beat Bama? Yes. Will I continue to think that way until they prove me wrong? Absolutely. In Dan Mullen, I trust.
