All week everyone was talking about what was Kyle Trask going to do without Kyle Pitts in the lineup? Well, Trask went 23/29 and threw for 356 yards with 6 touchdowns, winning 63-35. The Gators racked up 208 yards on the ground for a total of 564 yards against the Razorbacks. Trask proved he doesn’t need Kyle Pitts to light up defenses, but having Pitts back against Kentucky will be a huge plus for the rest of the season. Trask leads the nation with 28 TD passes, 5 in front of UNC’s Sam Howell, and UCF’s Dillon Gabriel. Trask also has fewer games under his belt than the two quarterbacks.
With six games left of the season, counting the SEC championship game, and the Gators bowl game, Trask sits 11 touchdowns behind Danny Wuerffel’s school record of 39 touchdowns thrown. One of the biggest stories leading up to this game was that the former Gators quarterback, Feleipe Franks, would be making his return to the swamp. Whether it was the fans greeting him with boos or the nerves of facing old teammates, Franks didn’t live up to the hype. Franks finished 15/19 throwing for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns in a devastating defeat.
Look Ahead:
Gators opponents have a combined record of 7-17. Dan Mullen will need to keep this group focused in order to get looked at for a playoff spot. With Texas A&M game getting postponed, the Gators should jump one spot in front of them and be ranked 5th going into the upcoming weekend. Kyle Pitts has already been ruled out for the game this weekend vs. Vandy. The Gators shouldn’t be playing their starts after half in that game. Their biggest opponent is in the SEC championship game, Alabama. The Gators haven’t beat Bama since December 6, 2008; losing 6 straight games against them. What makes this year any different from the last six? Florida has an elite offense with a quarterback tight end due no one has seen in over the last 10 plus years. They can go round-for-round with the Bama offense, it will only take one mistake by either squad for the other to take advantage of. No one knows more about disappointment than Florida Gators fans in recent years, this year will be different.
