Gracie Gold Skate America 2020 Short Program

Gracie Gold has taken a couple of years away from figure skating because of her eating disorder and mental illnesses. She took some time away from the sport to get her health back to where it needs to be. This year she made her comeback at the regionals and qualified for sections and then into nationals. She skated at nationals this year and did her best after taking time off for so long. Everyone is happy she is back on the ice, doing what she loves, and is writing her comeback story now. Skate America is a competition that just occurred in October of 2020. She is still in the process of returning to the sport fully, and it is refreshing to see her come into the competition once again. Gracie Gold is 25 years old. Her coaches are Pasha Flichenkov and Alex Zahradnicek. She is skating to Survivor by 2WEI for her short program. The music choice is perfect for her comeback, as she has survived taking time away from the sport, her mental illnesses, eating disorders, and has overall been through a lot.

Gracie is a beautiful, fast skater. She pushes herself down the ice and covers the entire arena every time she is out there. She has gorgeous lines and extensions with every position she completes. The audience loves her choreography with every program she has. She is emotionally invested in her music choice and skating; it is refreshing to see when she is on the ice. Every rocker, counter, or step she finishes is done so with deep edges and smooth deep knees. The first jump she completes is a beautiful double lutz, and then she has great choreography going into a huge double axel, landed elegantly. The first spin pass she completed is a combination spin that was a level 4, a base level of 3.50 points, and a GOE of 1.05. The final jump pass for the program is a double flip, which was a big jump and a beautiful air position. The next spin pass was a flying camel spin that received a level 3 and GOE of .28 points. Although her step sequence had a lot of speed and was great to watch, the sequence only received a level 2. The final spin was a layback spin that received a level 2. Unfortunately, the double lutz and the double flip did not receive any points in this program because they are meant to be triples.

The final score for Gracie’s short program is 46.36 points. Her technical element score is 17.72, and the presentation point total is 28.64. Overall, Gracie is a beautiful skater, and one is able to see that she is trying her best to be competing again. She is doing an excellent job coming back. This is a strong comeback for her so far, and everyone is proud of her. She should keep up the great work, and everyone looks forward to seeing her improvements in future performances.
