For weeks, I have been preaching the idea that Power Rankings are misleading and inaccurate. I have kept saying that rankings judge teams based on what they have done whereas they should be judged based on what they will do. With this in mind, for the final edition of the NFL regular season, I will look at the five teams that I see as most likely to win the Super Bowl. Here are the top five teams that looking forward are going to be the most likely Super Bowl champions.
Kansas City Chiefs
Since the first week of this endeavor, I have ranked the Kansas City Chiefs as the top team in the AFC. They have yet to let me down. The Chiefs have played in close games and have played down to some opponents but remain the best team in the NFL. Not only do they have the best record in the NFL, but they also have the best team collectively. We haven’t seen a Super Bowl repeat champion since the Patriots in 2003-04 & 2004-05. However, this is the Chiefs Super Bowl to lose.
Green Bay Packers
I have been convinced for weeks that no team in the NFC will be the Super Bowl Champion. After watching the Packers dominate the Titans on Sunday Night Football, I have to suddenly take that statement back. The Packers look like the most complete team in the NFC with little to no roster flaws.
The Packers might face teams that match up very well against them in the NFC. The issue is that it is hard seeing any team better than them in the conference or more likely to win the Super Bowl.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills have lit the NFL on fire in recent weeks. Josh Allen looks unstoppable and the Bills look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The Bills haven’t just been beating their opponents, they have been scoring 40 points a game and the defense is improving at the right time. The Bills season has been such an impressive story, the governor of New York is buying into the hype as he plans on watching their home playoff game in 25 years in person.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have been a difficult team to evaluate this season. This can be pinned on the inability for Drew Brees to play every game. However, we saw this past week that the Saints are ready to compete for the Super Bowl. Alvin Kamara ran behind a great blocking line as the Saints scored 50 points against the Vikings. The Saints might not be as good as the Packers but they wouldn’t surprise anybody if they were the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have looked like two completely different teams this season. At the beginning of the season, the Seahawks were scoring 40 points a game behind the air attack of Russell Wilson. Now the defense is carrying the team. The Seahawks intrigue me since Russell Wilson is a quarterback you can trust to win a playoff game. Likewise, the defense has found a rhythm with Jamal Adams back and knowing how to use him.
