Aaron Rodgers needs to play on one leg, just kidding. In all honesty, the Bears have strong momentum moving into Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Now on a three-game win streak, the Bears have shown strong potential in different areas in their game. These four areas will be key if they want to win and get on Sunday afternoon. All signs point to this game having a playoff atmosphere for the Bears against none other than their arch-rivals. To win, they’ll need to bring their A-game, starting with their offensive game plan.
1. The Run Game
One of the strongest areas in the Bears game plan is due to their lead back recently turning it up a notch. David Montgomery has put up more than 95 yards rushing in four of the past five games for the Bears. In these last five contests, having scored 7 touchdowns, respectively. If the Bears want to continue their momentum, they need to keep feeding the ball to Montogomery and not give up on the run game. No reason to fix or change what’s been working.
2. Bears Defense Needs to Show Up
The next key point is the defense, which has as of late been a slight problem for the Bears. Their defense has not shown up recently in the same way they have in the past. To stay ahead of the pack, the Bears need to control the tempo of the game. If it becomes a shootout, the Bears will find themselves in a tough place trying to beat Rodgers at his own game, which brings up Davante Adams as another problem the Bears defense needs to handle to win the game. If the Bears defense can keep the Packers under a point limit of 30 their revamped offense should be able to stay in the game long enough to surprise some people Sunday afternoon.
3. More Dynamic Playcalling
A quick look at the Bears offense reveals that they have anything but a complex offense to follow. They set up some standard plays that don’t pass the eye test for an offense that wants to pull surprises on the opposing team. This is a problem as teams have a ton of film to look at and be able to read out what the Bears will look to do. In my opinion, the Bears need to adopt a more aggressive playstyle that draws on new plays they have not yet used in any game. Packers defense may not be the greatest, but the Bears will not be doing themselves any favors if they continue to use their predictable playcalling.
4. Trubisky Needs to Limit Mistakes
Mitchell Trubisky has to keep up his strong play that he has shown in the past three games. The first go-around against the Packers this season showed a completely different team than where they’re at now. The thrashing from the Packers in game 1 was Trubisky’s first game back after being benched for Nick Foles. Now five games in Trubisky has got momentum that needs to show up Sunday. Namely, the forced throws and dumb mistakes need to be all but gone for Trubisky to be able to keep up with Rodgers.
Each team has momentum going into Sunday’s matchup. Bears off a three-game win streak, and the Packers getting a huge win over a strong Titans team. Despite what analysts will say, the Bears may just be able to hang in long enough to surprise the Packers behind their revamped offense. One thing is certain though, if Chicago starts to play catch with the Packers, they’ll be better off channeling their energy to the Rams to help them get into the playoffs.
