Knicks Sign Veteran John Henson To 10-Day Contract

The New York Knicks have reportedly added John Henson to their roster with a 10-day contract. The report first came via Shams Charania of the Athletic.

Henson last appeared for the 2019-20 Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons. Over the course of the season the veteran averaged 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 15.0 minutes per game.

The addition of John Henson brings another needed big man to the Knicks roster. At 6’9″, and 219 pounds and a reputation of chasing down rebounds and being a capable rim protector. The signing comes after news that starting center Mitchell Robinson will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Henson is best known for his time with the Milwaukee Bucks where in six-plus seasons he averaged 7.8 points and 5.4 boards in 20.1 minutes per game. Milwaukee then dealt the center to the Washington Wizards as part of a three-team deal in 2018.

At center, the Knicks currently have been starting Nerlens Noel, with Taj Gibson also getting time. Last week, the club added Norvel Pelle to a 10-day contract as well. The 6’10” has already impressed in a Knicks uniform and will be another name in competition for the 5 position.

John Henson adds some necessary size and experience down low as the Knicks continue their playoff push. Currently standing at .500, New York is 25-25 and sitting in 7th place in the Eastern Conference. With an expanded NBA playoff it seems like this could be a year the New York Knicks climb into the postseason. The injury to Robinson is tough, but New York hopes their recent additions can keep them in contention for the 2021 NBA playoffs.
