Cardinals place outfielder Dylan Carlson on 10-Day IL ahead of Brewers series

In what would’ve been his return to the Cardinals lineup after missing the entirety of the weekend series in Kansas City, Dylan Carlson was instead scratched due to the ongoing discomfort in his wrist and later placed on the 10-Day IL.

In a corresponding move, the Cardinals promoted outfielder Austin Dean from Triple-A Memphis.

Dean was with the big league club briefly in April, hitting .222 with one homer and seven RBI’s.

With Carlson out, Lars Nootbaar will draw the start in right field, batting sixth.

Carlson was removed from Thursday’s win in Pittsburgh after having dealt with soreness in his wrist over the past few days, and hasn’t played since.

Cardinals MLB.com beat reporter Zachary Silver was the first to report the news of Carlson being scratched.

Any time without him would be a problem for St. Louis. Luckily though, they have some solid in-house options waiting.

Obviously, Nootbaar is getting the start tonight, but they also have Jose Rondon, a utility infielder who can play both corner outfield spots. They could even put Tommy Edman out there.
