Cards Activate Hudson Ahead Of Doubleheader vs. Cubs

Today, Dakota Hudson’s long road back from Tommy John Surgery is complete.

The Cardinals activated their rotation stalwart from the 60-Day IL and placed him on their roster as the 29th man for today’s doubleheader against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Hudson is built up to be a starter, but will most likely be used primarily out of the bullpen, but could possibly serve as a piggyback option for Jack Flaherty for the second game of the twin-ball. Flaherty will also be activated later today.

Hudson made five rehab starts. He was set to make a rehab start on Wednesday, but was scratched from that start so that he could join the team for the series in Chicago and be available to pitch.

In a corresponding move, the Cardinals granted Daniel Ponce de Leon his unconditional release, just days after being designated for assignment.

The Cards are on a 12-game winning streak, and will look to tie their franchise record from 1935 with a doubleheader sweep today.
