The Bears Are Back… To Normal

via USA TODAY Sports

After watching this Sunday’s performance from the Chicago Bears it is clear to say that the Bears are back to their normal selves. As they went into the game 1-1, many fans were hopeful that their team would pull this win out, or at least make it close. That however, was not the case at all as Chicago struggled and could not even score a touchdown.

The Browns defeated the Bears 23-6 in an uneventful game where it was clear from the start who would be in control. Justin Fields only completed 6 passes on 20 attempts, and threw for 68 yards. If that statistic wasn’t bad enough, their offensive line allowed for 9 sacks, barely giving Fields a real shot.

Looking at these statistics it has fans wondering if Fields is the right choice for the starting position over Andy Dalton. Dalton sat out on Sunday with an injury and cheered the team on from the sidelines as he watched them lose without a single touchdown.

Bears running back David Montgomery did not have much to contribute either, as he was handed the ball 10 times only gaining 34 yards, and passed the ball twice for 21 yards. While those seem like not so great numbers for a highly rated running back, he was still the only Bears player to gain more than 27 yards from scrimmage.

While it might be easy to blame the players and their lackluster performance, at the root of the problem is Matt Nagy, Bears head coach. He did not prepare the offensive enough to be able to work together or get anything going on the field, which was shown in their performance. Nagy has struggled getting these players to work well together for a long time and the changes he has made have been questionable too.

After the game Nagy owned up to his mistakes and said, “it starts with me, ends with me, and it’s as simple as that.” Which many people are now taking and running with. Fans are asking themselves why he continues to stay as head coach even after admitting his faults.

Despite the negative energy from fans, Nagy thinks he will be able to fix this team with the right parts moving together. Whether that is Fields or Dalton is clearly still up in the air and spectators will have to wait till later this week to hear about Dalton’s injury recovery.
