Rams Continue To 5-1. Trouble-Free Weeks Ahead

The Rams ventured to New Jersey to face the struggling NY Giants this afternoon. It was another unpleasant and ugly game for Giants fans at Metlife Stadium.  In contrast Rams fans, at home in LA,  savored yet another victory. The Giants scored first, but that is about all they could say about the game and their Graham Gano 27-yard field goal.   In their first two drives, the Rams drew near the end zone, but couldn’t push it in.  The Giants created an early facade they could stay competitive with the Rams’ overpowering offense.   The façade faded quickly, though.

They weren’t down for very long. The Rams scored four touchdowns in an electrifying ten minutes during the second quarter.  By the time the second quarter was wrapping up, the Giants were buried deeper than Jimmy Hoffa in Metlife’s west end zone, 28-3. Stafford completed 22 of 28 passes and finished the game with 251 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.  Ram rookie, Robert Rochell had the first interception of his NFL career.  Cooper Kupp caught a 13-yard pass from Matthew Stafford tallying two touchdowns on the day for the dynamic duo.

With 6:21 left in the game  Giants fullback Elijhaa Penny, made a 4-yard run, scoring their first touchdown of the game, giving their offense 11 points on the day.   What I was most impressed by during this game was not the Rams but by the optimistic Giants fans who stayed loud and proud throughout the 4th quarter, despite the brutal 38-11 score.

Stafford and the Rams continue their journey into week 7 with a 5-1 record. They face a struggling 0-6 Lions at home next Sunday and in week 8 they get to feast on the Texans in Houston. The weeks to come will be very gratifying for Rams fans.
