The World’s Best Female Skier: Lindsey Vonn

It’s hard to imagine that in this wild year, we are already closing in on the holidays, with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas taking place within the final two months. In this unusual year, baseball, basketball, and hockey are all in the middle of their offseasons, but winter sports like skiing are making their return. It’s impossible to talk about skiing without mentioning American skier Lindsey Vonn.

Lindsey Vonn is the most decorated female world cup skier. In her 19 year career, Vonn won 82 world cup races, 16 discipline titles, made the podium 137 times, and won World Cup Overall titles four times (2008-2010, 2012). Her 82 race wins are four shy of Ingemar Stenmark for most all-time male and female. Representing Team USA, Vonn has won 8 medals at the World Championships, including 2 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 3 Bronze. Vonn also has two Silvers and one Bronze competing in the Junior World Championships. Vonn’s career on the world cup tour only tells part of the story in her amazing career.

Lindsey Vonn’s more recognizable achievements came during the Winter Olympics representing Team USA. At the 2010 Olympics, Vonn won the Bronze in the Super-G event and Gold in the Downhill. After missing the 2014 Olympics due to injury, Vonn returned in 2018, where she skied her way to a Bronze Medal in the Downhill. Vonn retired from skiing in 2019 at the age of 34.

Lindsey Vonn, who has become a household name, celebrated her 36th birthday on October 18th. The next winter Olympics will occur in 2022, and we should be excited about the possibility of Vonn returning to the game as a commentator.
