Bet the PigSkin: Top 5 Games

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

As of right now, only one contest for AP Top 25 teams has been postponed. Many schools are doing great jobs in controlling the outbreaks of covid. Masks are being worn by personnel on the sideline, and even some players are wearing them when they are off the field. Week 12 of the college football season is right around the corner. Let’s take a look at games you could hypothetically place a bet on, responsibly.

5. Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma (-7): Oklahoma

Coming into the game a touchdown favorite even though they are ranked four spots below OK State. Oklahoma playing at home with fans in the stands is the only reason they are favored in this game. OKST is, however, 2-3-1 against the spread compared to Oklahoma being 5-2 vs. the spread. I worry about a backdoor cover in this game and stay away from betting the teams. Let’s look at where the over/under is set at. As of right now, the O/U is set at 59.5. This game is going to feature two defenses that can’t play defense. My Pick: Over 59.5

4. Wisconsin (-7.5) vs. Northwestern:

This is an interesting game to watch. NU is 4-0 this year and 3-0 against the spread. For them to be a 7.5 point dog doesn’t seem right to me. I don’t think they have played good enough teams to have this much respect going up against Wisconsin. That being said, this is the perfect “let me down game” for Wisconsin. Wisconsin is coming off a huge win against Michigan 49-11. No game has hit the over for NU this year, both on the opposite side Wisconsin is 2-0 for the over. My Pick: Bet Wisconsin -7.5/Over 44.5

3. Indiana vs. Ohio State (-20.5):

Hey Vegas! Let’s put some respect on Indiana! You are giving Indiana a 3 touchdown lead? Beating Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan, and Michigan State wasn’t enough evidence that they are the real deal. Ohio State is going to run the table, but they will not cover this game. Indiana might be the best-coached team in the Big 10. 4-0 against the spread, good teams, win great teams cover. My Pick: Indiana +20.5

2. Appalachian State vs. Coastal Carolina (-5.5):

Let’s head to the Sun Belt! App State is 6-1 on the season facing a Coastal Carolina team that sits at 7-0. What a game! CC is 5-1-1 vs. the spread, whereas App State is a lousy 1-6. CC is ranked 15th in the nation and is not to be trifled with. My Pick : Coastal Carolina -5.5

1. Georgia Southern vs. Army (-4):

This game is plain and simple; if you bet against Army, then you hate the troops. I don’t make the rules, I just follow them. Let’s look at some facts for a second. Army is 5-3 vs. the spread this year and 5-0 at home. They have the best home-field advantage of the season, with only the cadets allowed into the stadium. GSO is, however, 6-1 on the season but have only covered 3 of the games. My Pick: Army -4/Under 41.5
