Florida Gators vs. Kentucky Wildcats Recap

[Brad McClenny/The Gainesville Sun]

Florida Gators continue to roll through the SEC with a 34-10 win against rivaled Kentucky. Kyle Trask goes 21/27 with 256 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Kyle Pitts returned from concussion protocol with 5 catches on 7 targets and 99 yards receiving, finishing the game with 3 touchdowns. It is almost like he is the best tight end in college football? The rule of thumb when it comes to being named a Heisman finalist is “you must be the best player on your team, or how would you be the best player in the country?”. With Kyle Trask and Kyle Pitts, one isn’t as dominant without the others. Trask didn’t struggle without Pitts, but they weren’t playing any formidable teams. Obviously, Pitts wouldn’t put up these same numbers without Trask. All I’m saying is that both these guys deserve to be in the conversation.

Going into halftime, the Gators were down 10-7 with Kentucky punting it away. Two Florida players watched and waited for the punt. The ball found Kadarius Toney, but everyone on Kentucky went to the other return man. Come to find out, the Kentucky punter muffed the punt, and it went off the wrong end of his shoe. The ball was supposed to go to the right side of the field but ended up on the left side, where Toney was set up to return. Due to the miscue, Toney ran the ball back 50 yards for the touchdown and lead going into the half.

Florida’s defense stepped up big time, only allowing 62 passing yards, 159 rushing yards, and ended the game with 3 interceptions and a sack. Florida has two games left against Tennessee (2-5) and LSU (3-4). The Gators are on the verge of clinching the SEC East title and a date with Alabama in the SEC Championship game to determine who gets into the college football playoffs.
