May 2, 2021, became a night to remember for Arizona Diamondbacks fans when Torey Lovullo notched his 300th victory as a Diamondbacks manager. Lovullo, who has done an excellent job managing the D-Backs, joined World Series-winning manager Bob Brenly (303), 2007 Manager of the Year Bob Melvin (337), and 2011 Manager of the Year Kirk Gibson (353) as the only managers in the history of the Diamondbacks franchise to win 300 games in a Diamondbacks uniform. It was a back and forth game Sunday night against the Colorado Rockies, but the D-backs pulled away late to beat the Rockies 8-4 and gave Torey Lovullo his 300th win.
The D-Backs scored first with one run in the bottom of the second, but in the top of the third, the Rockies scored two runs against D-Backs starter Merrill Kelly and took a 2-1 lead. The D-Backs responded later in the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead 4-2, and Kelly would finish with 5&⅔ innings allowing just two earned runs and a no-decision. In the top of the eighth inning, the Rockies scored two more runs and evened the score at 4-4, but the offense responded with a decisive 4 run inning in the bottom of the eighth to put the D-backs up for good, with a final score of 8-4. The D-Backs took three out of four against the Rockies in Chase Field and improved their season record to 15-13 in a tight NL West Division.
The Diamondbacks now have the day off on Monday before traveling to Miami for a three-game series against the Marlins May 4th through the 6th and a weekend series against the Mets at Citi Field on May 7th through the 9th.
