Angels, Noah Syndergaard Agree On 1 year Deal

Thor is heading west.

This morning, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that right-hander Noah Syndergaard is heading to the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year contract. The deal is worth $21 million.

Syndergaard has dealt with several injuries over the past two years. He missed all of 2020 and most of 2021. But when healthy, he was a stalwart in the Mets rotation. He posted a 3.32 ERA over seven years in New York.

The Angels are paying quite a hefty price to land Syndergaard in terms of money. They also will surrender a second round draft pick, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. However, starting pitching has been the bane of their existence over the past several years, as it’s been an area they’ve failed to address. To have someone to go alongside Shohei Ohtani is a plus.

The Halos also have to hope he stays healthy. But if he does, it could turn out to be a low-risk, high-reward type deal for them. They’ll also probably look to add more starting pitching.

As for the Mets, this isn’t a colossal loss for them, despite his success there. Due to his injuries, it was unlikely they were going to re-sign him. They’ll also be in the mix for some more starting pitching, most likely focusing all of their attention on trying to bring back Marcus Stroman.
