This morning, the first domino fell in the trade market.

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired reliever Adam Cimber and outfielder Corey Dickerson from the Miami Marlins in exchange for second baseman Joe Panik and a minor league pitcher.

Cimber has bounced around in his career, beginning in San Diego and being traded to Cleveland along with Brad Hand before being dealt to Miami this past offseason. In 33 games this season, he has gone 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA.

Toronto’s bullpen has been a struggle, so Cimber provides somewhat of an anchor in a pen that desperately needs it.

Dickerson was placed on the injured list with a foot contusion while the Marlins were in St. Louis on June 15. This year, in 204 at-bats he has hit .260 with two homers and has driven in 14.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Toronto designated left-handler Travis Bergen for assignment.

The Blue Jays are on a hot streak right now, having gone 7-3 in their last 10 games and leapfrogged the Yankees in the AL East. They sit in third and trail the first-place Rays by 6 ½ games

This marks the first major trade ahead of the July 30 deadline, and you can expect to see many more moves as that day continues to approach.
