The NLDS begins today, and it starts off with a great matchup between the Brewers and Braves. All NL Postseason games will air on TBS, with the series opener in Milwaukee starting at 4:37 p.m. Eastern Time.
The first two games feature some great pitching matchups. Game 1 will feature Charlie Morton for the Braves and Corbin Burnes for the Brewers, while Game 2 will feature Max Fried for Atlanta and Brandon Woodruff for Milwaukee.
Below, we’ll make a case for each team to win the series by highlighting their strengths and weaknesses and how they’ll play into the upcoming series.
The Case For The Brewers
Their big three atop the rotation may be what decides this series. But they’re more than just those three guys. They’ve got Josh Hader at the back end of the bullpen, one of the best in the business. They’ve also enjoyed a great season from Kolten Wong, and have other valuable offensive threats such as Willy Adames, Eduardo Escobar, Avisail Garcia, Luis Urias, Lorenzo Cain, and of course, 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich.
They also have Tyrone Taylor and Daniel Vogelbach, who are solid options off the bench. The Brewers are deep and well positioned to make a run. They’ll be tough to beat this postseason.
The Case For The Braves
No Ronald Acuna Jr.? No problem. Acquiring Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall, and Jorge Soler helped make up for the loss of Acuna. They’ve also still got Freddie Freeman, Ozzie Albies, Dansby Swanson, and Austin Riley.
Their rotation is no slouch either, with their top three being Max Fried, Charlie Morton, and Ian Anderson.
Also, the Brewers are without Devin Williams, a major piece in their bullpen, which could play right into the Braves’ favor.
Conclusion
This will be a good series, with great pitching matchups galore. These are two teams with great postseason experience, so it should be fun and full of drama.
