Cubs Claim Wade Miley Off Waivers From Reds

It appears the Reds have already begun a fire sale this offseason.

Today, the Chicago Cubs claimed left-handed starter Wade Miley off waivers from Cincinnati.

Miley has spent the past two seasons with the Reds. He went 12-7 with a 3.37 ERA in 28 starts this year.

Though the Cubs were predicted to be big spenders this offseason, this move comes at no cost. It’s sort of puzzling as to why the Reds would waive him, as they aren’t getting anything in return for him.

The Cubs are in desperate need of starting pitching. The veteran left-hander now forms a solid 1-2 punch with Kyle Hendricks.

Plenty of other starters are still out on the open market. Perhaps the Cubs could make a play for Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman, or maybe even Robbie Ray. Expect them to continue to explore the starters market.
