Five Cardinals Win Gold Gloves

Via Jeff Curry/USA TODAY Sports

Last night, the Gold Glove winners were revealed in each league.

For the National League, the Gold Glove Awards were mostly highlighted by one team; the Cardinals. Five St. Louis players were named Gold Glove winners, which is the most for any team ever in a single season. This also marks the first time a team has ever had five Gold Glovers in one season.

Paul Goldschmidt, Tommy Edman, Nolan Arenado, Tyler O’Neill, and Harrison Bader, all won Gold Glove Awards for their respective positions. The other Gold Glove winners were Max Fried, Jacob Stallings, Brandon Crawford, and Adam Duvall.

The Cardinals have always been a team that prides themselves on playing great defense. Their defense was one of the few saving graces while they were playing sub .500 ball in July. It was also a major key to their turnaround in September, a month in which they won 17 straight games to go from the middle of the pack to the postseason.

St. Louis had a .986 Fielding Percentage and made only 84 errors during the 2021 season. The team will be returning all of their respective Gold Glove winners in 2022.
