Mets Black Jerseys Make Citi Field A Friday Must

The New York Mets just made Citi Field a desired destination on Friday nights. On Thursday, it was announced the classics Mets black jerseys are coming back. During the Mets July 30th home game against the Reds the black jerseys will make their debut.

The return of the Mets black jerseys has been hinted at for awhile. Mets players have advocated their return for years. However, talks accelerated when shortly after purchasing the team Steve Cohen included it in his plans on a YouTube live Q&A. Like a man of his word, he brought the former alternate jerseys back. Not only are they back for the July 30th game, the black jerseys will be a staple at all Friday home games for the rest of the season. Making blackout night at Citi Field a top weekend destination.

Pete Alonso has been one of the most outspoken of his desire to wear the black jerseys. When he heard Cohen’s plans to bring them back in March he said:

“I’m just picturing in my mind everybody in the stadium with a blackout jersey,” Alonso said last month. “I think it would be so intimidating, just a sea of black shirts out there in the outfield with music banging out of the speakers, lights going. It would bring a lot of swagger and a lot of moxie.”

Fellow Mets players like Marcus Stroman have also shared their excitement.

To celebrate the jerseys’ return, the Mets will give away a black Francisco Lindor T-shirt to the first 12,000 fans in attendance on July 30.
