Jorge Soler may not be on the level of Freddie Freeman, but he’s just as valuable as any other free agent on the market. By now, everyone with any knowledge of baseball should remember him for his absolute rocket of a home run in Game 6 of the World Series and being crowned World Series MVP.
Transactions are still frozen thanks to the lockout, but when it finally ends and we get a little two week offseason, Soler is someone who should garner a lot of attention from teams looking for a power bat. Here are three teams that could be in play for the World Series MVP.
Atlanta Braves
Who’s to say he won’t end up back in Atlanta? With the universal DH more than likely coming in the next CBA, the Braves would have a spot for him.
It would be silly of the Braves to not try and bring back their World Series MVP. With Marcell Ozuna unlikely to come back due to his domestic violence suspension, Soler could very well fit into Atlanta’s 2022 plans, even with Ronald Acuna Jr. returning from his injury.
Chicago Cubs
Soler may have been the World Series MVP in 2021, but he was also a part of another historic run to the title in 2016. Chicago had a fire sale at the trade deadline, which saw them unload Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javier Baez. With those guys gone, there may be a fit for Soler with his old squad.
The Cubs came into this offseason ready to spend, and they’ve already done so by signing Marcus Stroman. Soler wouldn’t warrant a mega-deal, but having a bat like him in your lineup could really boost your chances at bouncing back into contention, which is what the Cubs are aiming to do.
San Francisco Giants
It’s pretty much been confirmed that San Francisco isn’t going to bring back Kris Bryant, as it was reported before the lockout that they wouldn’t be dishing out massive contracts. But what about a guy who can hit for power and play in the outfield for half the price?
Oracle Park may be a pitcher’s park, but after watching Soler’s rocket in Game 6, he could certainly do that in San Francisco. And if the Giants want to repeat as NL West champions and compete with the Dodgers, they’ll need some more pop in that lineup.
