Three Landing Spots For Freddie Freeman Other Than Atlanta

Freddie Freeman was one of the many big name free agents left unsigned when baseball instituted a lockout. After 12 seasons in Atlanta that included a World Series title, Freeman is on the market and will be one of the most highly-coveted free agents when the lockout is over.

The expectation is that he’ll end up back in Atlanta. But in the event that he doesn’t, here are some potential landing spots for Freeman.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are a possibility because Freeman is from Southern California. He would fit right in with the Dodgers too.

Los Angeles could move Max Muncy to second base or have him DH if the next CBA includes the universal DH, which we all assume it will. The Dodgers could then have arguably the best first baseman in all of baseball in their lineup, which already includes Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger, Muncy, Will Smith, Mookie Betts, and Justin Turner.

This would make them the easy favorite to win the World Series. Not that they weren’t already, but there would be zero debate as to who the best team is.

Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee stands out because they don’t have a true first baseman. They have Rowdy Tellez and Keaton Hiura, but they don’t have a guy who can really be an everyday first baseman. Freeman could help with that.

Imagine him in the same lineup with Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain, Luis Urias, Kolten Wong, and Willy Adames. That would be a lethal one through nine and would also make them a clear favorite in the NL Central.

New York Yankees

New York is in need of a big move once the lockout is settled. Luke Voit isn’t really cutting it at first base these days. Anthony Rizzo could still re-sign, but Freeman would give the Yanks another lefty bat to go with Joey Gallo in their lineup.

The addition of Freeman to a lineup that already includes Gallo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, and DJ LeMahieu would bring back memories of the 1927 “murderers’ row” team, and they would pose a huge threat to Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Boston in the AL East.
