There’s no denying that the Hawks did their job by stealing Game 1 on the road in Milwaukee, but the complete and utter domination by the Bucks in Game 2 on Friday could foreshadow how this Eastern Conference Finals series will play out.
The Bucks led by just 6 points at the end of the first quarter, but a 20-0 run sparked by Jrue Holiday would give Milwaukee a 31-point lead in the final two minutes of the second quarter. The Hawks were outscored 43-17 in the second quarter, and it didn’t get better from there for Atlanta.
Milwaukee went on to lead by as much as 41 points in the game after putting up 103 points through just three-quarters of play.
Hawks forfeited Game 2 early in the fourth quarter by throwing out a bench lineup consisting of Cam Reddish and Kris Dunn. Reddish hadn’t played in an NBA game since mid-February due to soreness in his Achilles.
The Bucks would win Game 2 125-91 to tie the series 1-1.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 25 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in a dominant showing for the Bucks. Jrue Holiday added 22 points and seven assists.
After his 48-point scoring output in Game 1, Trae Young had just 15 points, three assists, and two rebounds in 28 minutes of play. He had more total turnovers (9) in the game than assists, rebounds, and steals combined.
There just weren’t many positives for Atlanta in this game, especially for John Collins and Clint Capela. The two combined for 34 rebounds in Game 1 but managed to grab just 16 rebounds in Game 2.
Atlanta will head back home for Game 3 on Sunday in what will now be a best of five series against the Bucks.
