In a strange and very different NBA season, Jaylen Brown has emerged as one of the premier shooting guards in the league. Brown has averaged career-high numbers in point, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and assists. Brown has even led the Celtics in points per game with 27.1 points. Brown’s stellar performance this season has put him in serious talks to make his first all-star appearance.
Jaylen Brown had an excellent start to his season, being among the top five scorers in the league at one point. Brown also had two 42 point games and has led the Celtics in scoring in ten of Boston’s 18 games played. However, The Celtics have been one of the many NBA teams affected by COVID-19. Many of their players were unavailable due to the virus, including the Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum. In addition, Kemba Walker has only played six games this season after returning from a knee injury. This has led some to wonder if Jaylen Brown’s all-star like success is due in part to the Celtics other stars being absent.
This, however, is unlikely. It is possible that Brown leading the team in scoring is in part due to Jayson Tatum being out for an extended period of time. However, Brown’s pure improvement and success are all him. Brown has consistently gotten better each year, and 2021 is no exception. Brown is currently averaging career-high numbers in points, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and assists. His 27.1 points per game is coming by way of a staggering 53.1 field goal percentage.
With all of that said, there are many players at the shooting guard position in the east that deserve to be all-stars. Players like James Harden and Zach Lavine are among them. However, due to his incredible play and consistent improvement, it is the opinion of this reporter that Jaylen Brown certainly deserves an all-star spot in 2021.
