LaVar Ball was right, all three of his sons–LaMelo Ball, Lonzo Ball, and LiAngelo Ball–would make the NBA. LaVar even wore an “I Told You So” hat as he attended LiAngelo’s NBA summer league debut with the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
Despite the 93-86 loss against the Portland Trailblazers, LiAngelo made the most out of his first real opportunity in the NBA with Charlotte.
Coming off the bench, he had 16 points, two assists, and two steals in just 16 minutes of play for the Hornets. All of his buckets came off 3-pointers as he continued to display his quick release, shooting 5-for-8 from three-point range.
The one point he didn’t score off a three came from the free-throw line, completing a 4-point play that he made towards the end of the fourth quarter.
“I got enough confidence in my shot; I practice those shots so it’s not like I’m rushing anything. It’s just like practice,” said Ball after the game.
LiAngelo had originally signed and suited up for the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA G League in March of 2020. Unfortunately, the season was canceled before he was able to appear in a game.
If he can continue to impress as the NBA summer league unfolds, he could likely receive another opportunity in playing for an NBA G League team. It’s also not far-fetched to think that he could carve out an NBA career solely off his ability to shoot as the game continues to modernize.
“I just want to go out and control what I can, play my hardest, and hopefully get wins for this team. Then if I make the real team, go from there,” said Ball. “I love the game and I just play the right way. It’ll fall into place.”
