The Heat exited the 2021 NBA draft without a single pick, but they were easily the most active team through the first hour of free agency.

Butler agreeing to a maximum contract extension over four years was the first of three moves that the Heat made to start free agency. The Heat can finalize the deal with Butler over the next week and officially come to terms after Aug. 6, according to ESPN Insider Brian Windhorst.

Butler, 31, averaged 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game last season for the Miami Heat. He made the 2020-21 All-NBA Third Team and led the league in steals with 2.1 per game.

Butler is set to make $50.3 million dollars during the 2025-26 NBA season in which he will be 36 years old.

Duncan Robinson Agrees to Five-Year $90 Million Deal

The Heat managed to retain Duncan Robinson as the sharpshooter has played a key role in Miami’s success over the past two seasons.

In just his second season, Robinson set a Heat franchise record for three-pointers made in a single season and tied the franchise record for most three-pointers in a playoff game. He also set the NBA record for the fastest player ever to reach 500 career 3-pointers, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old is coming off his third season in which he averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.8 rebounds per game. For his second-straight season, Robinson shot over 40 percent (40.8%) from three-point range in all 72 games last season.

Heat Land Kyle Lowry via Sign-And-Trade

Following his nine-year stint in Toronto as arguably the greatest Raptor in franchise history, Lowry is joining the Heat on a three-year contract worth $90 million, according to ESPN.

He announced his decision to sign with the Heat through both his Instagram and Twitter accounts. Lowry now joins both Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on the Heat as the team enters a win-now mode.

After being swept by the eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs, adding a championship-caliber point guard like Lowry was important for the Miami Heat.

The details of the sign-and-trade between the Heat and Raptors have not been confirmed. It’s rumored to revolve around Goran Dragic, Precious Achiuwa, and a future pick.
