Potential Trade Targets For The Miami Heat

Sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, the Heat look like a team that’s likely to stand pat during the Trade Deadline. However, knowing how Pat Riley likes to be unpredictable, it’s not far-fetched to expect a small move or two from Miami. While Miami has limited trade assets when it comes to picks, they do have multiple young players on minimum contracts as well as Duncan Robinson’s contract to match others. The Heat have been named to be interested in a few players, ranging anywhere from Christian Wood to Rui Hachimura. Here’s a look into some other players Miami could potentially be targeting.

With Markieff Morris still sidelined for an indefinite amount of time, his brother Marcus Morris Sr. could be worth a look. This season, Marcus is averaging 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and converting 37.8% from beyond the arc. The Heat are missing a player off the bench that can match the physicality that P.J. Tucker brings to the starting lineup. Marcus would be a great fit with Miami’s defensive scheme and be able to contribute to the second-team offense. The Heat would likely have to part with Duncan along with a first-round pick to make this happen.

Another possibility could be Myles Turner, who would fit perfectly next to Bam. Myles is currently averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds to go along with a league-leading 2.8 blocks per game. His interior presence paired with Bam’s defensive versatility would make for an interesting duo.  Since the Pacers are likely blowing it all up, they’ll be looking for first-round picks or young players in exchange for their assets. Looking back on the Caris Lavert trade that occurred earlier, Turner would likely command some more compensation than that. In addition to including Duncan to make the salaries match, the Heat would likely have to include another young player or acquire another first-round pick via trade.

Aside from potential targets, the Heat could also be looking into offloading KZ Okpala to open up a roster spot. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Miami being more active in the buyout market than in legitimate trade conversations. Most Heat fans would love to see Goran Dragic back on the squad, but that can only materialize if he is traded to another team first, then bought out directly after. Thaddeus Young is another option who may be available on the buyout market, another playmaking big who could be useful off the bench. Whatever the Heat decide to do, there’s no doubt they see themselves as a legitimate contender this season, with or without a trade.
