Team USA Advances to Gold Medal Game

Heading into Thursday’s semifinal game, Team USA had already dropped back-to-back matchups against the Australians in Olympic play.

After the Americans trailed 41-26 midway through the second quarter, Team USA went on a 33-9 run over the final minutes of the second quarter and midway through the third. They’d outscore the Australians 32-10 in the third period to take a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Team USA would win by a score of 97-78 and advance to the Olympic Final where they’ll look to collect their fourth-straight gold medal.

Kevin Durant has continued to carry the U.S as he’s scored 20-plus points for his third-straight game in elimination play. He finished with 23 points and nine rebounds on 10-for-19 shooting for Team USA in the win.

Devin Booker had 20 points for the U.S., while both Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday each had 11 points.

Patty Mills had 15 points for the Australians, as Dante Exum had 14 points and Jock Landale had 11 points.

The U.S. will now either look to end a two-game losing streak against Rudy Gobert and France or attempt to slow down Luka Doncic and Slovenia in the gold-medal game.
