Chicago Bears Fall Once Again, This Time to San Francisco 49ers

via USA TODAY Sports

Even with home field advantage and Matt Knagy watching from home with COVID, Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears were defeated once more. With a 3-5 record now, Bears fans are losing the hopes and dreams they had for this 2021/2022 team rapidly. They lost by 11 points, the 49ers outscoring them 33-22.

This game unfortunately was a tell-tale sign of how the rest of this season will probably go. The Niners are an incredibly beatable team for the Bears, yet they were burned once again. With the Packers now pulling away as well, heavily controlling the NFC North, playoff hopes may not be in the cards for this Bears team. While they may only be one win away from that wildcard spot, their schedule looks like it might prevent them from getting that. Next week they face the Steelers, the following week the Ravens, etc. Looking at the next month, the only winnable game most see is the Lions on November 25th.

Looking at all of this, Bears fans are saddened, Matt Knagy’s job is at stake, and it is likely this offseason will be full of trades. The one glimmer of hope though? Justin Fields. While he may have only thrown for 175 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, the quarterback looked more like a running back. He ran for 103 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts. Fields even looked better than some RBs that played last Sunday.

Fields is showing major improvements as time goes on. The more games he plays, the more he gains confidence which is huge for this Chicago offense. What they lack is a leader and Fields is looking more and more like he will be able to fill this spot for them. Knagy has confidence in his rookie QB and Bears fans are understanding why.

That being said, Knagy’s confidence in Fields does not do much for his position as head coach. With Chris Tabor filling the head coach role this week, the play calls were better and things seemed to run more smoothly overall. Chicago fans were happy about this too, as Matt Knagy might be the most ciritized person in Chicago this season. Only time will tell what the future is for him as head coach.

The major question after this week is if the Bears can pull off major upsets the next two weeks and hold out until they play the Lions. Questionable, but possible as Justin Fields continues to improve.
