Football is finally back kicking off with the Chiefs and Texans at a socially distanced Arrowhead Stadium. The defending champions proved again why they are one of the top teams in football as they took care of the Texans with no worries. Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, had a good game throwing 200 yards for three touchdowns. While Rookie running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire was able to live up to expectations having an impressive NFL debut. He would end the night with 138 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. On the Texans front, Deshaun Watson threw for 253 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. New Texans running back David Johnson looked like his former self, rushing for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. With no Deandre Hopkins, Will Fuller had to step up for his team; he was targeted 10 times and had 8 completions with 112 yards. This was still not enough though as the Chiefs had a great game on both sides of the ball beating the Texans.

The Texans began the game scoring a touchdown in the first quarter behind new running back David Johnson. Coming off a shaky season, David Johnson looked like his former elite self as he had a 19-yard touchdown to put the Texans on top first. Chiefs shortly responded as they were able to get a touchdown in the second quarter on the next possession. Mahomes to Travis Kelce for the easy 6-yard touchdown. Thereafter, it was all Chiefs in the first half as they made scoring plays with each possession of the ball. Mahomes was able to complete another passing touchdown as he hit Sammy Watkins for the 2-yard touchdown. The Chiefs led the Texans 17-7 at the half.

Second Half

The second half did not bode the Texans much better as they could not create any big offensive plays. Without Deandre Hopkins, the Texans were unable to create big plays for themselves as their offense continued to be stagnant. The Chiefs though, were clicking on all cylinders as they continued to get the ball to their star players. Their defense was able to constantly put pressure on Watson, disrupting any offensive rhythm. Chiefs running back Edwards-Helaire led the way in the second half with a 27-yard touchdown that got him above 100 yards on the night in his debut. Deshaun Watson continued his shakey play as he threw an interception as soon as the Texans began to get momentum. The Chiefs continued to score and were up big late in the fourth. Eventually, their lead was too much as they beat the Texans 34-20. After the game, Patrick Mahomes said, “It’s fun to be back out here . . . to be doing something normal again”. Chiefs fans can expect to continue having fun watching their team as they are back to normal playing Super Bowl level football.
