It was yet another depressing loss for Texans fans on Sunday. For the first three quarters the
Rams’ offense feasted on a weak and vulnerable Texans’ defense, while their own defense
stymied an ineffective Houston offense. This wasn’t unfamiliar for Texans’ fans who have
become accustomed to their weekly defeat, in stark contrast to their overachieving Astros.
Things were going the Rams way from the get-go and continued that way the rest of the
Afternoon.
The Rams finally showed mercy, after going up 38-0, by giving Stafford the rest of the afternoon
off. Stafford used his 4th quarter sabbatical to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.
With Stafford on the sidelines and the Rams with their foot off of the accelerator, the Texans, at
last, were able to move the football.
Other than Coach McVay, Cooper Kupp has benefited more than anyone from the Stafford
acquisition. The duo added another touchdown to their list. Robert Woods added his own
second touchdown of the day on a nifty 16-yard run into the end zone. Darrell Henderson Jr.
also added two more touchdowns on the day. The Texans never had a chance as the Rams
gorged themselves on the porous Texans’ defense.
However, in the fourth quarter, the Houston fans were finally given something to cheer about.
With Stafford pulled, and the Rams relaxing, the Texans were, at last, able to make some plays.
In an “electrifying” five and a half minutes they posted three touchdowns making the final score
38-22. Seemingly respectable. However, anyone watching the game understood this score did
not reflect how severely the Rams dominated the forlorn Texans.
The Rams have enjoyed a gratifying past four weeks. They have won every away game this
season and now sit on top of the NFC West with the Cardinals. They can look forward to next
week’s home game against the Titans, who are without league-leading rusher Derrick Henry.
