The New England Patriots fall to the Buffalo Bills 24-21, winning at home against the Patriots for the first time in 8 years. Cam Newton called his own number late in the game instead of dishing the rock to Damien Harris, who had 102 yards on the ground and his first career touchdown. Newton ended up coughing up the ball with 37 seconds left on the Buffalo 13 yard line. The first half was a disgusting display of football by both sides, with the score 7-6 at the end of the half. If I’m going to rip Newton for poor play, then it is only right to rip Josh Allen. Allen does get his first win against the Patriots; however, Allen was 11/18 throwing with 154 yards and an interception. Allen also rushed the ball 10 times for 23 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots now fall to 2-5 on the season, and it is highly unlikely they make a run to make the playoffs. With the New York Jets on tap for the Patriots Monday night, they will bounce back and get a win.
Tanking for Trevor
I think it is time for the Patriots to look to the future, and Cam Newton isn’t the answer. I believe the Patriots need to be sellers at the deadline and get ready for the draft. Stalk up on future first and second-round picks and say goodbye to the 2020-2021 season. I do believe the Jets could go 0-16 or 1-15 this season, which does not bode well for the Patriots to draft Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson. Let’s not forget the Chargers wanted Eli Manning to be their quarterback, and he refused. Who’s to say Trevor doesn’t do the same thing? Why waste the first five years of your career with the dumpster fire that is the Jets and demand the Patriots draft you if they have a high enough pick. Keep Edelman out for the remainder of the season, trade Gilmore for a first and third-round pick, and let Cam roll for the rest of the season with the receivers he’s got. Fans around the league are excited that the Patriots are stinking it up this year, but it won’t last after this season. Don’t sleep on the fact that the Patriots are slated to have $45 million in cap space next offseason and are poised to make a huge splash. In the 2021-2022 season, the Patriots will be atop the division and contenders once again.
