Sunday afternoon, the Rams, led by Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt, once again looked like the most potent offense in football. Wait a minute, make that Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Desean Jackson. While they started slow, they hit their stride late in the 1st quarter and went on a tear. The next four Rams possessions were capped off with Matthew Stafford touchdown passes. First to Tight End Tyler Higbee. Next to favorite target Cooper Kupp. Followed by a deep strike to Desean “I Get Faster With Age” Jackson. Finally, Stafford hit Kupp for another 10-yard strike for Stafford’s 4th TD of the day. Matt Gay added some frosting with a short field goal for a 34-24 win.
The game wasn’t as close as the score might suggest. The Rams defense, led by Aaron “The Disrupter” Donald gave the Buccaneers fits. While Brady and the Buc’s offense, at times, seemed on the brink of putting it together, they never quite did, as they were pressed by a stout and physically punishing defense all afternoon. The Rams seemed in control the entire game while playing in front of a crowd that was electrified by their performance. Even Coach Sean McVay seemed energized and in high spirits encouraging his players as they went into halftime up 14-7.
Mind you, this is only September, but this Ram’s offensive unit looks like they’ve played together for far longer than 3 games. They move the ball up and down the field effortlessly. Stafford exudes confidence and is surrounded by offensive weapons made even more lethal by his arm and accuracy. He is supported by an intimidating defense and a coach with creative play calling. There is cause for optimism in Los Angeles tonight because, at this moment, the Rams are the most complete team in the National Football League.
