The Never Ending Nightmare of the Dallas Cowboys

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Jerry Jones won’t need his tiny binoculars to see that his team is farther than ever from winning the division, let alone a Super Bowl title. A disastrous week for the Dallas Cowboys has finally come to an end. The 25-3 loss to the Washington Football Team in Week 7 feels like the cherry on top to a distasteful ice cream sundae that is the 2020 season.

Is it time to move on from DC Mike Nolan?

For the fourth game this season, the Cowboys trailed by 17 or more at the half, which is tied for the most in franchise history. The Dallas defense continues to make any average to poor offense look like the best in the league. For example, Washington’s running game ranked one of the worst in the league, beat its average of 82 yards pg in the first quarter. Also, the blown coverage play by rookie CB Trevon Diggs on WR Terry McLaurin led to a touchdown was another display of confusion shown by the defense. No matter what situation, DC Mike Nolan’s defense continues to be historically bad. There is no question Nolan is in the hot seat already, and after another week of the same defensive mistakes, he may soon receive the same Cowboy’s boot that sent Jason Garrett packing.

No Quarterback, No Offense

In the span of two weeks, the Cowboys have lost two starting quarterbacks. The disgusting helmet to helmet hit by Washington’s Jon Bostic on a defenseless QB Andy Dalton in the 3rd quarter forced the 2020 7th Round Pick Ben DiNucci, to get his first taste of the NFL. Which I bet was exciting at first, then immediately scary for DiNucci once he realized the offensive-line he had to work with.

Although Dalton struggled to jumpstart the offense, the offensive line was bullied by Washington today. The Washington Football team dismantled the Cowboys’ offense with 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 INT, and 1 safety. No rhythm was established on the running game, and the passing game was absolutely atrocious. WR Amari Cooper was the only Cowboys receiver that caught a pass today, and Elliott struggled to rush 45 yards in 12 carries. The offense continued to look lost without the leadership of Dak Prescott, and while Ezekiel Elliott finally did not fumble, the offense still gave the ball away. It’s obvious that Prescott’s injury was going to affect the offense nonetheless, but to this extent is inexcusable.

The Future of the Cowboys

With another divisional game next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys’ hope to win the division can be silenced next week. The Cowboys have another long week ahead of them, though. With the newfound uncertainty of Andy Dalton, the already depleted Cowboys team has many more problems to solve. Will there be a defensive coaching change this week? Will Mike McCarthy relieve OC Kellen Moore of his play-calling duties? Or will Owner Jerry Jones fire GM Jerry Jones? No, never in a million years, but tune in next week to see what’s next in the never-ending nightmare of the Dallas Cowboys.
