When the Philadelphia Eagles ended their season vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs there were a lot of questions. One that really stood out once again was what they will do to upgrade the Wide Receiver position. They found their number 1 receiver in DeVonta Smith with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and had what many people believed a stand out season by 2020 6th Round Pick Quez Watkins. After that, you had a disappointing season from 2020 1st Round Pick Jalen Reagor, and almost no shows from 2019 2nd Round Pick JJ Arcega Whitside and former QB turned WR Greg Ward. After signing Head Coach Nick Sirianni’s former Indianapolis Colt favorite Zach Pascal, the question still stands, “What will the Eagles do at WR?”. With a lot of talent still available out there, here’s what they can do.

Why Free Agency?
This has been one of the craziest off seasons in NFL History. With star QB’s like Russell Wilson getting traded, to players like WR Christian Kirk getting market breaking contracts this has been an off season to remember. With all of that said, there’s still talent out there in free agency that can prove to be useful. They can get a veteran stud such as Julio Jones, Jarvis Landry, or Odell, or get a smaller key veteran piece such as a Cole Beasley or Will Fuller. There’s still talent out there available for Eagles GM Howie Roseman to snatch for starting QB Jalen Hurts.
Trade For A Veteran WR
Why Trade for a WR?
QB isn’t the only position that has struck the trade market this off-season. With star WR’s such as DaVonte Adams, Tyreek Hill, and Amari Cooper all being dealt this off-season this has been the year to do it. The Philadelphia Eagles come in the 2022 off-season with 3 first round picks at their disposal (more on that later) and they can either use all 3 or they can trade one for a WR. With WR’s such as DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Davante Parker rumored to be available, GM Howie Roseman can make a big splash.

Why The NFL Draft?
This is the option that personally, I would stay away from. The last three years, The Philadelphia Eagles have drafted a WR in the top 2 rounds and only 1 out of the 3 has proven to work. With that said, you can’t deny the talent this year’s crop of WR’s bring. Players were breaking NFL Combine records this past year in the 40 yard dash that caused guys to slide up and down draft boards. With OSU WR’s Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson or Arkansas WR Treylon Burks with 3 first round picks, GM Howie Roseman definitely can take his pick.
What I Believe They Should Do
What I Would Do As The Eagles GM
As the roster stands, you have DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Zach Pascal, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward Jr, and JJ Arcega Whitside. Pascal was a slight upgrade but still not enough to win an NFC East Crown. So, with the veteran presence of Pascal, the Eagles have a vet in place to help teach the younger receivers on the team which is big, but now what I would do as the GM of The Eagles would be the following,
PLAN A: Now, time for some talent, if I were the GM I would first make phone calls to teams with WR’s on the trade block. You have a young QB in Jalen Hurts who struggled as a passer at times in his career, helping his development by getting him a proven star WR would be big .
PLAN B: If the price teams are asking for is too high, then I would like to see if Ican get a cheaper veteran. I think someone like Jarvis Landry would be a huge off-season signing that can help put this offense on top of the NFC East. Now, with the WR market, his price can be too much for The Eagles.
PLAN C: My third option would be to draft someone. My favorite pick for the Eagles would be Arkansas WR Treylon Burks. He’s a big strong WR which is something this WR Corps is lacking and showed at times last season. Get a big body in the slot and you can give Hurts a great weapon underneath that will take pressure off the other targets. That’s the route I would go, but how will The Philadelphia Eagles and GM Howie Roseman address the position? Only time will tell.
