School is back and with that also means a return to college sports. Everyone has their favorite teams and schools, but this year will be very different. Not every school or conference will be competing in fall sports, and spring sports are still up in the air. All that being said, it’s important to recognize the new student-athletes that will be facing a more challenging time given what is happening with the pandemic. One of those athletes is Ashley Menne who is entering her freshman year as a member of the Arizona State University women’s golf team.
ASU women’s golf is already the greatest program in the nation with 8 NCAA Team Championships, 10 individual national champions, and 35 appearances in the NCAA Championships. The golf program at ASU has also produced five Pac-12 Golfer of the Year winners. Looking to the future, the prestigious Sun Devils women’s golf program added more fire power with the recruitment of valley native Ashley Menne.
Ashley will be coming into Tempe with an impressive record at Xavier Prep. Menne led the Xavier Gators to state championships three straight times from 2016-2018, and all three times, the Gators won very handily including the 2018 title where Xavier won by 33 strokes. Ashley Menne racked up numerous end of the year awards at Xavier which includes winning the Arizona High School Girls Golfer of the Year all four years with the Gators, and won the Junior Golf Association of Arizona Player of the Year all four years as well. Ashley now has the opportunity to bring her championship prowess to ASU and hopefully propel the women’s golf program to another national championship.
We don’t know when or if the golf season will take place, but we should extend a great welcome to the newest Sun Devil Ashley Menne.
