The only way to describe the match on Sunday between Liverpool and Leicester is pure dominance. Leicester went into the game atop the Premier League, riding high off of six straight wins in all competitions. The defending champs looked to have their hands full, missing their best player in Mohamed Salah. Salah had missed their previous matches due to a positive Covid-19 test. That did not slow down this Liverpool squad. They lead the three major categories you look at after the game; shots (on goal), possession percentage, and corner kicks. Liverpool had 20 shots (11 on goal) to Leicester’s 10 shots (3 on goal), held possession 65% of the match, and finished the game with 10 corner kicks to Leicesters 3. The first goal came off one of the ten corner kicks. Unfortunately for Leicester, it was headed in by Evans in the twenty-first minute. Diogo Jota, who transferred this offseason to Liverpool, set a new club record as he is the first person to score in his first four home matches as a starter. He gave the Reds a 2-0 lead in the forty-first minute of the match. Roberto Firmino sealed the win with a classy touch in the eighty-sixth minute. Closing out an underly dominant performance by the entire team.
Look Ahead:
With Mohamed Salah slated to return to training, it will be just in time for the Reds next couple of matches. Two of their next three matches are UEFA Champions League matches. Wednesday, November 25th, they take on Atalanta, and Tuesday, December 1st, they face Ajax. If Liverpool can mustard at least four points between the two games, they will secure their place in the round of sixteen. I don’t see them dropping any points between the two games. I see them winning both games to completely control the group and rest their starters for the last game of group play against Midtjylland. One game everyone should watch out for is Wednesday, December 16th, against Tottenham Hotspurs. Tottenham leads the Premier League but only by goal differential. They hold the same 6-2-1 record as Liverpool. Liverpool is poised to make a run for the league title and the UEFA title in this crazy season.
