Manchester City Closing In On Record Jack Grealish Move

Manchester City is nearing a record deal to sign midfielder Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Man City have made their interest in Grealish clear for over a month now. City Manager Pep Guardiola also has expressed a desire in Tottenham’s Harry Kane. Sources have confirmed the club has interest in both despite Grealish’s £100 million ($139m) price tag. Harry Kane looks to demand more than £150m ($208m) as well.

The deal would be a British record surpassing the previous record set in the £89.3m ($124m) Paul Pogba deal to Manchester United.

However, signing Jack Grealish might push other City players to another club. Players that could be on the move are Raheem Sterling and Bernando Silva. Silva has already expressed being open to leaving and has received interest from Spanish and Italian clubs. Sterling has also been linked after falling out of favor with Guardiola in the second half of last season.

Jack Grealish has made 213 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring 32 goals, since making his senior debut for his boyhood club in 2014. He is also a member of the England National Team.

While City is in hot pursuit of Grealish, Aston Villa hopes to hold onto the midfielder. Villa opened contract talks with the 25-year-old last week, nine months after he committed to a new five-year deal, and fully intend to build the team around him.

Grealish is gearing up for England’s round of 16 matchup in the European Championship. Talks with Manchester City are expected to accelerate and finalize once his run in the tournament is over. If England avoids elimination, the final is scheduled to be held at Wembley on July 11.
