The Main Character Of The Premier League Finale: Winners Manchester City

The final showdown: as the final day of the Premier League ends on a high note for title-winners Manchester City, as they show Everton how the champions do it with a 5-0 win! A huge, memorable, and perfect way for Sergio Agüero to bid farewell to the men in blue, the fans and Etihad Stadium, as he bagged a brace in his final game. On the other side of Manchester, the red counterparts finished 2nd in the league with a tough win over Wolves, while reigning champions, Liverpool FC sit 3rd after a comfortable 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Champions League finalists Chelsea suffered a 2-1 loss against Aston Villa; however, they secured the 4th spot on the table.

Once again, we saw Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs go head-to-head in a fight to secure Europa League qualification, as Leicester City held Spurs until the very end (in a very messy game) where two last-minute goals by Gareth Bale sealed the 7th spot for Spurs, as they finish right above Arsenal, after their 2-0 win over Brighton.

The biggest surprises this season were West Ham, who finish 6th with a chance to shine in the Europa League, and Leeds United, who hustled from the start after their promotion from the Championship and caused problems for a lot of the top teams in the league, as they ended their Premier league journey in the top 10.

A day of shocks, surprises, and goodbyes as the top 5 teams mirror the 2019/20 season, just in a different order. In a nutshell, City, United, Liverpool, and Chelsea bagged Champions League spots (we will also see City and Chelsea in the final of the UCL). FA Cup winners Leicester City and West ham United grabbed the Europa League spots, and Tottenham Hotspur (literally) waited until the last minute to secure a spot at Europa League qualification. Other teams to make it to the final top 10 include Arsenal, Leeds United, and Everton. While we will not be seeing Fulham, West Brom, and Sheffield United in the Premier League as they head down to the Championship, post relegation.

A huge congratulations to Manchester City and the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season does not mean it’s the end of English soccer- we’ve still got the English Champions League final and of course, the Euros.
