This Is Anfield: Liverpool Drop First Match

Up until Sunday afternoon Liverpool was the only team in England to not lose a game in any competitions.  If you look solely at the stats it makes no sense that the Reds lost this game. They controlled possession sixty seven percent of the match and had fourteen shots (five on goal). It seemed as though everyone on defense, with the exception of Virgil van Dijk, was already on their international break. The Liverpool keeper was left on an island all day and when West Ham United had six shots (three on goal) and all three shots on goal go in, that is a recipe to lose the game.

The day started off poorly when Alisson was credited with an own goal in the fourth minute of the game.  Trent Alexander-Arnold had an absolute beauty of a strike on a free kick from right outside the box to tie the game right before the half.  West Ham pulled away in the 74th minute when they took a 3-1 lead. Liverpool gave themselves some pride when they pulled within one goal after Origi netted his first goal of the Premier League season. When the final whistle blew and Liverpool lost their first game in all competitions this season. The Reds sit in fourth place going into the international break only four points behind first.

After the team comes back from the break they will face a surging Arsenal team on Saturday November 20th and go into the Champions League match day five against Porto. Liverpool has already clinched the top spot in the group and punched their ticket to the round of sixteen. Klopp has stated that the team will show up for the remaining two games but will he rest some important key members? Liverpool fans would rather be safe than sorry. Reports have come out that Firmino could miss up to a month with a hamstring injury.
