WNBA: Liberty Lose To Last Place Indiana Fever

Liberty Fever

The New York Liberty rolled into Indiana to face the Indiana Fever on Friday night. The Liberty looked to add to their two-game winning streak against the last-place Fever. The Fever were sporting their popular Stranger Things themed jersey, and it was certainly a strange night for the Liberty shooting. As a team, they shot under 40% from the field and only had three players shoot over 50%, Friday.

The Indiana Fever, who came into the game with two wins on the season, were boosted by the play of Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell scored 20 points while also facilitating the ball well with 5 assists. Danielle Robinson added 18, and Teaira McCowan had 15 points for the Fever.

It was a tough shooting night for both Sabrina Ionescu and Sami Whitcomb. Ionescu shot 28% and had 6 turnovers on the night. As previously written, Ionescu tends to set the tone in Liberty victories. When Sabrina shoots over 50%, the Liberty are undefeated (5-0). Sami Whitcomb had 10 points on Friday and struggled from the field. However, Whitcomb got the great news of being selected to the 3-point shootout at All-Star Weekend.

One bright spot for the Liberty was 23 point, 8 rebound performance from Betnijah Laney. Laney, who also will be part of the WNBA All-Star festivities has been stellar this season.

The Liberty look to recover from their loss to the Indiana Fever on Sunday when they face the Connecticut Sun at home.
