We’ve seen some of the best, young American talents paving their name in Europe- talking Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, Timothy Weah, and the young man they call “Captain America”- Christian Pulisic! And there’s a reason these players are rising through the top ranks in Europe as US soccer fans witnessed history in the making as Pulisic and his Chelsea side went on to win the UEFA Champions League, after a 1-0 win over Premier League winners, Manchester City!
Not only did this make Pulisic the first male American to play in the Champions League, he made history by becoming the first American to lift the coveted Champions League trophy! A night to remember for so many fans across the world, but especially for young boys having seen a kid from Hershey, PA, make his appearance in the most iconic stage of European football and then joyously lift the trophy of the champions!
A first-half goal from Kai Havertz put Chelsea in front, but they were a constant threat up front, while they also stayed strong defensively throughout the entirety of the game, after having lost their towering central defender Thiago Silva to an injury early on. We saw the American powerhouse, Pulisic, enter the field in the 66th minute and not only did he cause problems with his attacking prowess, he was also playing his part at the back, not letting City get a breakthrough. Christian also had the chance to become the first American to score in the Champions League after a pin-point pass from Havertz was lifted just wide over Ederson and past the City goal.
At the end of the day, Christian Pulisic, a kid from Hershey, Pennsylvania, is now a Champions League winner! And he got to celebrate that with his family, both his Chelsea family and his mom and dad. During the celebrations, he quickly donned a USMNT crewneck to inspire the next generation, “I hope there’s some kids watching back home in America thinking that they can do the same.”. Christian Pulisic, is definitely an inspiration to thousands of kids watching worldwide, as his name is now etched in the history books at only 22-years-old and it’s pretty obvious the best of him is yet to come!
