Now that “The World’s Most Famous Arena” has opened its doors to 10 percent capacity, Knicks fans and New York City are celebrating! While fans who attend games must follow strict COVID-19 safety and testing protocols, this is a promising first step toward the eventual increase in capacity and return of other live experiences.
It would be an understatement to say that the New York Knicks are having a shockingly good year so far. With a record of 19-18, the Knicks not only surpassed a few teams that were expected to perform very well this season, such as the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, but are also on track to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
While it has certainly been a while since the Knicks ranked above .500, more specifically since the 2012-2013 season led by Carmelo Anthony, the team headed into All-Star weekend exceeding expectations. New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle, who played in his first NBA All-Star Game this past weekend, is undoubtedly having the best season of his career. Being part of a team that puts him in the best position possible to maximize his creativity, Randle has transformed into the mature, legitimate star player that he was destined to be.
Attributable to Head Coach, Tom Thibodeau, young Knicks have been able to develop their skills and contribute significantly to the team’s continued success. Although projected to be a second-round pick, rookie guard Immanuel Quickley, who is proving to be one of the best in his class averaging 12.2 points per game, is also seeing enough minutes to close out games strongly. While Thibs may not fit the modern-day social media coach, Knicks fans are excited just to see their team is finally a winner, especially now after the mid-season capture of Derrick Rose. Overall, it is safe to say that the era of Thibodeau is off to a propitious start.
