Arike and the Dallas Wings Snap Seattle Storm’s 5 Game Win Streak

With less than a second left on the game clock, Arike Ogunbowale threw up a highly contested three-point shot to claim the 68-67 victory over the Seattle Storm. Seattle had not trailed in the second half until that final, all-too decisive shot. Ogunbowale’s buzzer-beater capped off a 12-point comeback by the Dallas Wings, after being down 54-42 to Seattle deep in the third quarter.

It was an amazing finish to a series in which, just two nights before, Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm, hit a three-point buzzer-beater in overtime to give Seattle the 105-102 victory.

Clearly, Ogunbowale took it personally.

The Wings star finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and the game-winning three in the upset. Jewell Loyd led Seattle’s fight with an impressive 25-point performance, but it wasn’t enough to sweep the Wings.

With their loss on Sunday night, the Storm fell to the 2nd seed, trailing the Connecticut Sun in the standings. Seattle will play Connecticut this weekend in a highly-anticipated matchup with the hopes of reclaiming their previous 1st place standing.

The Dallas Wings, even with Sunday’s victory, have a less impressive record of 3-5 and hold the 9th seed in the league. However, all five of their losses have been by single digits, two of them in overtime. The Wings, and special players like Ogunbowale, continue to prove their grit in big moments and will look to extend their small win streak against the Mercury in Pheonix on Tuesday.
